Why is it that often called "Stayman-Winesap"? Why should "Winesap" be part of the name? How many other apple cultivars have what they came from attached to their name? Knowing that because of its being more the result of intentional development than chance discovery should not take away how much it deserves to be considered a type on its own at the same standard applied to others. And how about the name confusion this can lead to? How many there may call this just "Winesap"? Yesterday I found about what seems to be a cultivar of apple that is the result of crossing the two types above. Imagine the name confusion there? (Crossing such cultivar while we do not even see it in the stores? Never mind, it is a place where fruit is evaluated based on its crunchiness).
The negative reaction this man got because of the achievement he made is real head scratcher.
