1131: Lowering sodium intake for regularity

I think that having improperly managed sodium intake (whether too high or too low) could be the reason behind constipation most of the time.

More than probably twelve years ago I once had an xray in that ring shaped machine done to me because of my enlarged prostate. But after they looked at it I got asked if I feel like constipated as if they were troubled by what they saw in my colon, and it seems that they also kept looking into that much longer than the usual afterwords. Now, I think that was the accumulated result of my crazy salt consumption since childhood, and the problem with insoluble fiber (from that of semolina flour I talked about some years ago to that of the psyllium husk I talked about in post 1122) is only secondary reason built on that. What brought the sodium issue to my attention in the resent months was noticing that even insoluble fiber may fail to work for me within a day or two after going back to consuming salty pumpkin seeds. So I started testing the theory by carefully counting and cutting back on all the sodium from all sources and felt the big change within days. I started by trying to take myself to the opposite side all the way and experienced with inadequate sodium intake the Miralax-like feeling of water accumulating in the colon and now think of paying attention to that to better manage my internal system. It seems like the power of just controlling sodium to water balance for health or at least for regularity is greatly under appreciated. Yesterday, for example, I had about 250 grams ravioli and 168 grams pasta which would have been a big problem under my earlier sodium intake level.

I used to think that I can consume all the sodium I want and just drink more water but apparently things do not easily work like that for constipation issue probably because it would require so much attention to the drinking effort. Reading about the requirement to drink this or that much big amount of water I used to wonder what could be the difficulty in that but apparently how the drinking gets done is part of the requirement and chugging does not count the same.

With regard to the main problem on which post 1122 was focussed it seems like I missed a factor that could be the most important of all, and that factor is how I have been salt addict all of my life. Another factor, although probably less important in comparison, is my being a chugger drinker.
